INTERNSHIPS

VSB students are encouraged to participate in at least one internship during their college career, regardless of whether or not they receive academic credit. Internships are offered during the fall and spring semesters, as well as over the summer.

Internships offer students the following benefits:

  • Build networking relationships and develop professional contacts
  • Experience the organizational culture and how it fits with one鈥檚 career goals
  • Create potential full-time job opportunities
  • Gain an understanding of the industry, which enhances marketability on a job search
  • Develop professional skills (technical skills and soft skills)

Earning Academic Credit for an Internship

VSB students may choose to earn (free elective) academic credit for an internship or they may be required by an employer to receive credit. To begin the process of securing academic credit for an internship, submit your application to the Experiences section of Handshake. Be sure to include a position description and fill in all the fields. Approved students are required to attend a mandatory Launch Session.

Application deadlines:

Application deadline for Fall and Spring semesters is the last day of the add/drop period of the appropriate semester. Application deadline for the Summer is June 15 or before the start of your Internship, whichever comes first.

International Internships

Students are encouraged to incorporate internship experiences into their study abroad programs. Internships that are part of a study abroad experience are administered by the Office of International Studies. Credit approval for international internships is granted by the faculty chair of the appropriate academic area or faculty coordinator of the international program. Contact the to learn more.

SPRING ACCOUNTING INTERNSHIP (SAI) PROGRAM

The SAI program enables students to obtain in-depth, practical exposure to the accounting and business environment during the 鈥渂usy season.鈥 Accounting majors work full time at an accounting or related firm during the spring of junior year, earning six free elective credits for the internship experience. The program is designed so that students may complete up to 12 credits through spring semester mini-mester courses and/or by taking courses during the summer following their junior year, thereby retaining full-time student status and remaining on track to graduate in four years. Upon successful completion of the SAI program, many students are offered full-time job opportunities by the host firms.

The planning process for students interested in participating in SAI begins in the spring semester of sophomore year.
