Clinical Preceptor Certificate Program


Program Overview

Would you like to expand your abilities as a preceptor or clinical instructor? This asynchronous program is designed to help you understand the full scope of this role.

This program will emphasize the importance of how a variety of patient and community experiences are integral to learning. Together participants explore how to manage the challenges that arise with student/new employee clinical performance, changes in patient status, and the value of teaching interprofessional collaboration. Participants are provided with information and resources to enhance their effectiveness in the role, and they are expected to engage in online discussions about the topics at hand by raising questions, sharing experiences, voicing concerns and challenges. Through this format, participants learn from one another, as well as from program faculty.

The program reflects the 无码专区 College of Nursing鈥檚 commitment to integrating the ANCC Nursing Continuing Professional Development Accreditation framework and the OB-CE漏 model into practical applications. The Preceptor Certificate Program exemplifies how competency-based professional development seamlessly translates into academic advancement.

Participant Requirements

Each participant can expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on: reading relevant resources, sharing ideas in response to questions posed, and reading and responding to other participants' posts. Performance is measured using a non-graded rubric established by the faculty. Participants MUST attend 6/8 of each synchronous sessions, submit 6/8 discussion board post as stated in the rubric, complete and submit all evaluations to receive a certificate of completion. Attend the Simulation Immersions in person and meet with their FCN Faculty Mentor at least 3 times.

Faculty:   Susan K. Meyers, PhD, RNC, CRNP joined the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing in 2015 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge in Maternal and Newborn Nursing and extensive knowledge with 20 years' experience in nursing education, teaching as a Clinical Nurse Education Specialist, Adjunct Faculty and Assistant Professor. She earned her BSN from 无码专区, MSN from University of Pennsylvania, and PhD in Nursing from 无码专区. Dr. Meyers teaches Nursing Care of Childbearing Women and Families in the classroom to undergraduate nursing students and teaches practica in the Penn Health System in Philadelphia Pa. She is also a Certified Breast-Feeding Educator, Certified Diabetes Educator, maintains a Neonatal Advanced Life Support Instructor certification and is a Certified Register Nurse Practitioner. She has co-authored a textbook chapter, has received awards for clinical leadership and excellence, and served on various committees throughout her career.  

Access to the internet is required. This program includes the following for each of the 8 learning modules: a recorded lecture (up to 1 hr. in length), 5 assessment questions, and a discussion forum. Each participant will be expected to spend 2 hours each week reading relevant resources, sharing ideas in response to questions posed, and reading and responding to other participants' posts. Discussions will be monitored by program faculty. The 8 learning modules will be offered over an 8-week period to allow for reading, reflecting, and applying what has been taught.

Participants who complete all eight modules and pass each set of assessment questions with a score of 80% or better will be awarded a certificate and 16 contact hours.
