DR. ROBERT TRAVER RECIPIENT OF AAWRE 2021 SERVICE TO THE ACADEMY AWARD

Dr. Robert G. Traver, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE has been announced as the recipient of the 2021 Service to the Academy Award by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE), a subsidiary of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Traver, AAWRE 2013 President is recognized for his significant contributions and work in furthering the mission and goals of the Academy.

The AAWRE Service to the Academy Award was instituted by AAWRE in October 2014 to recognize a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer or an individual that exemplifies leadership and service to the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. This award is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding and extensive service or contributions to the Academy.

Dr. Traver is the 7th recipient of the AAWRE Service to the Academy Award.

In support of AAWRE鈥檚 mission to 鈥榓dvance the practice鈥 鈥 to broaden and deepen the body of knowledge for practicing engineers, AAWRE was founded in 2004 to improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the profession of water resources engineering.

Dr. Robert G. Traver has been a member of the Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Program at 无码专区 since 1988.  He currently serves as Director of both the 无码专区 Center for the Advancement of Sustainability in Engineering, and the 无码专区 Urban Stormwater Partnership.

While at 无码专区 Dr. Traver has conducted research on topics that include modeling of stream hydraulics, urban hydrology, water quality, and measures to mitigate stormwater effects of urbanization, and now climate change.  He has been the main force in creating a Stormwater Green Infrastructure Demonstration and Research Park on the 无码专区 Campus, and founded the 无码专区 Urban Stormwater Partnership to enable continuing long-term stormwater research.  Many highly cited publications have resulted from the faculty and students through this initiative.  Dr Traver believes that research supports and enhances the undergraduate and graduate educational experience.  He teaches graduate courses in hydrology, hydraulics, urban storm water management, and undergraduate courses in all facets of water resources.

Dr. Traver is a registered professional engineer, a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE), and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resource Engineers which he served as president.  In 2007 he received the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal from the Commanding General of the Unites States Corps of Engineers for his work on ASCE鈥檚 External Review Panel (ERP) of the Corps investigation of Hurricane Katrina and in 2014 was honored as the ASCE William H. Wisley American Civil Engineer Award 鈥渞ecognized for his leadership of ASCE鈥檚 Task Committee on Flood Safety Policies and Practices and editor of the Committee鈥檚 report, Flood Risk Management: Call for a National Strategy.鈥 He was a committee member of the National Research Council Committee that authored 鈥淯rban Stormwater Management in the United States鈥 (2009).  He continues to serve the profession as an associate editor of the ASCE Journal Sustainable Water in the Build Environment which he helped to create.   He was awarded the EWRI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
