Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design Courses Better Reflect Industry Trends
Mechanical Engineering’s required, two-semester capstone design course is focused on design – build – test projects that enable students to be hands-on, as well as gain prototyping and troubleshooting experience. Teams interacts directly with their customers—many are industry sponsored—to develop a precise scope of work and validate the design work as it progresses to ensure it satisfies their requirements.

This year, like all clubs, NovaRacing has needed to respond to the ever-changing campus-scape. Nearly 30 freshmen have shown interest in joining the Formula SAE team—which builds a race car from the ground up every year—but the garage cannot safely accommodate that many students for training. In order to introduce the freshmen, team president Chris Auslander ’21 CpE and his senior officers creatively implemented a series of online training modules on how to use SolidWorks.
2020 INNOVATE Teams Impress Audience during Final Presentations
Engineers’ resourcefulness was on display as teams in the INNOVATE L3Harris Summer Program adapted to a virtual environment. INNOVATE provides self-directed student teams with a two-month paid opportunity to develop innovative solutions to unmet societal or technical challenges. This year’s projects included Snake Bot, a Driving Simulator, Neuro Language Platform and Blue Blanket.
Civil Engineering Seniors Awards Moles Scholarships

PhD Student Selected as Fellow for 2020 Design Automation Conference
Dongning Ma, a 2nd-year PhD student advised by Dr. Xun Jiao in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was recently selected as a Richard Newton Student Fellow, which will support his participation in the 2020 Design Automation Conference. He and Dr. Jiao will also have a paper published and presented at the DAC on the use of machine learning to design better embedded computer systems.
Former Roommates “Cook” Nanomaterial Together
Mechanical Engineering PhD students Dong Zhou and Ji Lang have discovered the mysterious role of fluids in nanomaterial growth. Their research has the potential to revolutionize the chemical vapor deposition process, leading to new strategies to design the CVD setup and achieve controllable nanomaterial synthesis.
ECE Seniors Awarded for Capstone Projects
In lieu of its traditional dinner reception, Electrical and Computer Engineering department chair Dr. Bijan Mobasseri hosted a virtual event to present the annual awards for senior capstone projects. The work serves as the culmination of the students’ undergraduate 无码专区 Engineering experience.

Sustainable Engineering Graduate Student among Seventeen 无码专区ns to Win Prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Grant
Among this year’s recipients is Christa Cook, a 2020 master’s degree graduate of the Sustainable Engineering program. Christa will study and conduct research in Brazil. 无码专区 has been listed among the nation’s top producers of Fulbright Students for more than a decade, and the University has had at least one student selected for the coveted award each year since 1994.
