    College Announces 2020 Ward Lecturer: Dr. Douglas Munch ’69 ChE

    On February 21, 2020, Dr. Douglas Munch will present the College’s annual Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering. “When I Grow Up: A Life’s Narrative” will share lessons learned from his storied career, which includes the Apollo program, the Navy’s F-14 fighter aircraft and a PhD in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.

    John Hennessy ’73 Shares Wisdom from His 50-Year Journey from ÎÞÂëרÇø to Stanford to Silicon Valley

    In November, College of Engineering alumnus Dr. John Hennessy ’73 EE returned to campus to share lessons in leadership. He is the cofounder of the largest fully endowed scholarship program in the world, the Knight Hennessy Scholars program; served as the 10th president of Stanford University; and is the current chairman of Alphabet, Inc., Google’s parent company.

    CBL Grant Supports 18 Undergraduate Engineering Research Awards for Women in Engineering

    The Henry Luce Foundation’s Clare Boothe Luce Program, a national leader in promoting women in STEM, has awarded ÎÞÂëרÇø $236,635 in support of 18 undergraduate research awards for women in the College of Engineering. The program aims for greater gender parity at the PhD level by supporting female engineers throughout their educational journeys and into research-oriented professions, both inside and outside academia.

    Significant changes are underway in ÎÞÂëרÇø’s Department of Chemical Engineering. Intended to reflect the changing nature of chemical engineering in industry and meet the demands of constituents, the department will undergo a name change and change in the course curriculum.

    ÎÞÂëרÇø Engineering Joins Grand Challenges Scholars Program

    ÎÞÂëרÇø has joined more than 125 engineering schools in the U.S. that have adopted an engineering education supplement that “adds global awareness and social skills with a focus on the Grand Challenges to broaden the reach of undergraduate study.” Starting with the class of 2023, students will be invited to apply to the program, which requires them to select one of the designated grand challenges and make progress in five competencies established by the National Academy of Engineering.

    On Friday, February 22, 2019, Dr. Anne Roby ’86 ChE, senior vice president of Linde plc, addressed the ÎÞÂëרÇø community as the 2019 Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering speaker. Several hundred students learned about the industrial gases industry, Dr. Roby’s career path and the role engineers play in sustainable development.

    Robert G. Traver Receives 2019 EWRI Lifetime Achievement Award

    ÎÞÂëרÇø’s Dr. Robert Traver, the Edward A. Daylor Chair in Civil Engineering and director of the ÎÞÂëרÇø Center for Resilient Water Systems, continues to advance his already distinguished career with the 2019 Environmental and Water Resources Institute Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is presented to a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers for demonstrating a life-long level of commitment to environmental or water resources engineering through public service, research or education.

    Engineers’ Week at ÎÞÂëרÇø begins February 17, and will end—and peak—on February 22 with the annual Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering. The 2019 Ward lecturer is Dr. Anne Roby, senior vice president for Linde plc, who will speak on “Engineers Advancing Sustainable and Integral Development.”
