Research Opportunities

The is a research program for students interested in conducting research in mathematics and/or statistics (broadly defined) at ÎÞÂëרÇø. Each semester, we post available research projects, and students may apply for the positions. The program is open to all ÎÞÂëרÇø students and is most beneficial for those seeking careers in mathematics—in academia, industry and government. Current students can find out more about math and stats research at ÎÞÂëרÇø on .

We also encourage our students to apply to the opportunities available through the Center for Research and Fellowship, including the Undergraduate Research Fellowship program and Match Research Program for First Year Students.

DataFest Philly

is part of the national American Statistical Association DataFest—a 48-hour case competition where teams of two to five students receive a rich, complex dataset from a large company and analyze it for insights. Hosted by ÎÞÂëרÇø and organized by the University's Center for Statistics Education since 2017, the program is open to undergraduate students from institutions across the Greater Philadelphia area. This program takes data analysis beyond the constraints of a typical classroom setting by enabling students to work with real-world data as a team—uniting students in statistics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, social science and other fields for an intense weekend of data wrangling and analysis. Participants have the opportunity to network with industry experts and meet potential employers.

The Math Center in The Learners’ Studio

The Math Center provides free tutoring in nearly all ÎÞÂëרÇø Math and Statistics courses. From quick homework clarification questions to prep for final exams and anything in between, we can help. If you need a refresher on high school level math topics, we can lend a helping hand with that as well. Book a 1:1 session or just walk in any time for drop-in help—no appointment necessary.

Honors Society

Pi Mu Epsilon is a national honorary mathematics society with chapters at academic institutions across the country, including ÎÞÂëרÇø. Each chapter is designated by the state in which it is located and by a Greek letter assigned chronologically. Thus, ours is the Pennsylvania Iota Chapter. Chapters elect members based on proficiency in mathematics, the minimum requirements being the completion of two years of college level mathematics courses with honorable grades and a ranking in the top one-third of one's class in overall college work.

Student Organizations

The at ÎÞÂëרÇø is a chapter of the national nonprofit. At ÎÞÂëרÇø, we seek to promote and help our female students majoring in Math or related majors, but we are open to Math and related students of either gender!
